Baptisms

Non-parishioners should have a written letter from their pastor stating that they are active parishioners and that they have permission to have their child baptized at St. John’s.

Must have a copy of the child’s birth certificate.

Parents must:

Be attending church on a regular basis

Be registered in a parish.

Attend baptismal instruction either in their parish or those offered by St. John’s. (If at their own parish, they must have proof that they attended classes.)

If parents are not registered in any particular parish, they should register someplace. If they choose to register at St. John’s, they must be registered and attending Mass for at least one month before they may have their child baptized.

Godparents must also have written permission from their pastor allowing them to act as sponsors for baptism at St. John of the Cross.

God parents must:

Be Catholics in good standing.

Be registered and active in their parish

Have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

Attend baptismal instruction either in their parish or those offered by St. John’s. (If at their parish, they must have proof that they attended classes.)

If Godparents are married, they must be married by the Church. Godparents may be single. (Couples living together who are not married by the Church may not act as sponsors.)

Non-Catholics may not serve as Godparents HOWEVER; they may stand in the ceremony as Christian witnesses. Christian witnesses will be recorded in the sacramental books as “Christian Witness”. There must always be at least one Godparent who is Catholic.

If parents or godparents have attended classes within the two years two, they do not need to attend classes again.

$30.00 church fee is required.

A fee of $15.00 is required for class attendance only.
